Observing Sessions: Options
1. Observing through club members telescopes at the back of the Lititz Library, weather permitting, after club meetings April through November.
2. Observing ‘own your own ‘ for cub members at the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, north of Lititz. The approved dates by the Game Commission are listed on the Calendar Page. Telescope setup is at the rear of the visitor’s center adjacent to the parking lot. Directions to Middle Creek are listed below. For these dates, the visitor center parking lot lights will be turned off.
3. Club organized observing for interested members at four local star parties. These star parties include two Mason Dixon Star Parties, York County, in July and September and two at Cherry Springs State Park in Potter County (Cherry Springs Star Party in June and the Black Forest Star Party in August). The plan would be to have club members camp close together. The star parties (with the exception of the no-frills Mason Dixon Party in September) will have astronomy equipment vendors, speakers, door prizes, organized kids activities and the opportunity to observe through a variety of different types and sizes of telescopes. Links to these star parties are on the Calendar Page. Announcements on organizing intersted members attendance will be made at the club meetings.
Directions to Middle Creek:
Route 501 North through Lititz to Brickerville. At the light at Brickerville, turn right onto Rt. 322 East and turn left less than a half a mile onto Hopeland Road. Travel through the village of Hopeland and turn left onto Kleinfeltersville Road. After 2 miles, go past the lake dam on the right and past Laurel Drive on the left. Turn left at the next road to the Visitor’s Center. Parking and telescope setup will be at the rear of the Visitor’s Center.
